𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆

I had a Zoom call last week with a small group of aspiring Interior Designers, and I was asked quite directly:

"I've heard of the circular economy, but how can it help us on our projects?"

Interior Designers

My response:

It can't help you right now. 😱

But,

Using circular design strategies in your projects will help rebalance our natural desire for consumption, develop mindfulness, and, hopefully, bring us into harmony with natural cycles without compromising style and function. 🚀

𝗪𝗵𝘆? 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀:

1. As a society, we over-consume everything. We've become wasteful and detached from nature for far too long. We see ourselves above nature without caring about the consequences of our choices.

2. Regulation, climate alarmism, footprint tracking, etc., are all treatments for the symptoms imo. Sure, they are essential, like chemo is for cancer. However, I can't help but think they are reactionary and mask some of the root causes.

3. Nature does not create waste.

We need to take some baby steps to design 'circular' first. Then, if we contribute to saving the planet, it's a bonus. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭.

I gave them 3 actionable circular design steps as a starting point...
