It's been a dream of mine to experience working in Japan and visiting Tokyo throughout my career. From a distance, I grew up fascinated with Anime and the Japanese Architectural style. In 2018, when I first landed in Tokyo to lead the Iceberg project design, I was grateful and finally realised a dream!
The building is on Meiji-Dori Avenue in Omotesando, which is famous for fashion and retail shopping. It's a remarkable structure that is one of the most iconic buildings on the street, known as The Iceberg by the locals. With a prime street-level presence, we developed a fully-fledged cafe (Streamer Coffee) at the entrance, open to the passing traffic.
Beyond a wireless tailgate security system, the main space operates as a communal workspace during the day and an events hub in the evening. The material palette was deliberately refined and straightforward: White walls, concrete floor, an eclectic mix of furniture, and various small Japanese tiles.
